This is a place for reflections on medicine, life, mortality, identity, and meaning.  These are questions that have followed me through many years in medicine and increasingly, through my writing.

My writing explores these questions through medicine, science, philosophy, and stories drawn from a lifetime of encounters with patients and people.

I am the author of The Longevity Compass: Medicine, Mind, and Meaning, and my current work, Death: Mind, Meaning, and Mystery Beyond and After the Ego, continues that exploration—from how we live, to how we face death, to who we are beneath the images we create of ourselves.
